I recently made a considerable net profit on a house sale in Northern Ireland (as in £110,000 from four months of ownership). This was completely unintentional; I just needed to move closer to work so decided to sell after just a few months, but as an American citizen it blew me away that the market is so strong here. Anyway, because this money came to me from out of the blue, I’m considering reinvesting it in new property in the area, either land or home. My question is whether it makes more sense to diversify these earnings in things other than UK real estate, or put it all into one barrell and hope for similar luck the second time around. Some say the market here inevitably will crash, and this worries me. It’s also hard to justify spending £300,000 (US $600,000) on a property that probably would sell for $135,000 in many US states. The house I just sold for $640,000 is a two bedroom apartment, granted in a nice area but come on. Apparently real estate is where the money is. Advice?
Sarava, sorry to hear you’re having trouble selling your house. And I completely agree about the luck issue. The apartment I just sold was on the market for a year before I came along, and I purchased it for UNDER the asking price in September. When I sold it a few weeks ago, it went in five days, and people were bidding on it like it was on eBay!

If i want to avoid paying state income tax on a large sum of money I might make off of the sale of a stock, can I move to another state like Texas that has no state income tax and not have to pay California state tax on it? How long will I have to live in Texas before selling the stock? Can I keep our house in California and rent it out or would I have to sell it in order to avoid the tax in California?

That native americans, especially ones from wealthy tribes, pay absolutely no income taxes, if they have anything delivered to them on native land, say a car, they pay no sales taxes. Yet the state will use our tax money to pay for a new road to go to their casino! I know a couple of natives personally that get $17,000 a MONTH no exaggeration at all seriously $17,000 a month! Just for being native! There are 16 and 17 yr olds driving around in $70,000 vehicles! Then they whine how they are treated unfairly! What?!!! Unfair! A native’s girlfriend I work with just turned 18 and bought a $375,000 house, $34,000 worth of furniture, his girlfriend a $60,000 car and also has a hummer valued around $75,000. What is wrong with this country to just let a certain ethnic people live here extremely wealthy and for free! Their only arguement is that we “Stole there land from them.” News flash thousands of countries throughout time were founded by conquest not just the US.
I think the billions of dollars they’ve made since we gave them their sovereign land and casinos has more than paid for what happened to them! I have more respect for Paris Hilton then I do for any spoiled native!
So, for any injustice that happened long before any of our time should be paid for with reparations? If that;s the case just about every race, religion, creed, culture or nationality should be titled to some kind of reparation. Everyone acts like this is the only case of injustice to ever happen throughout time!

True we did, but that was generations ago! How many lands did the British Empire conquer? Many, you don’t see them catering to the ones conquered! The sins of the father should not be paid for by the son!
